A hist贸ria do grupo iniciou-se em 1920, quando Arthur Tavares de Melo adquiriu o Engenho Olho D麓脌gua, no munic铆pio de Camutanga, em Pernambuco. Em 1928, Arthur Tavares de Melo se associou ao sogro Samuel Hardman e ao cunhado Jos茅 Hardman e transformou o engenho na Usina Central Olho D鈥櫭乬ua.
