Guillermo Ignacio García Alcocer fue nombrado Comisionado Presidente de la CRE por el Senado de la República el 28 de abril de 2016. Tomó protesta para un periodo de 7 años, tras obtener 97 votos a favor, 2 en contra y 2 abstenciones, y se incorporó al ITAM como profesor invitado en agosto de 2019. El Lic. García Alcocer cuenta con más de 10 años de experiencia en el sector energético, especializándose en regulación técnica y económica, diseño de políticas públicas, así como evaluación y desarrollo de negocios. Participó en el grupo técnico y redactor de la Reforma Energética de 2013-2014, tanto en su vertiente constitucional como legal. Además, fue responsable de realizar los estudios de soporte para la Reforma Energética de 2008
