GRI promotes benchmarking week in New York

3 MIN READFebruary 13, 2019
Organized successfully in 2018, the GRI New York Week will take place again in 2019, on March 25, 26, and 27, in tune with Latin America GRI 2019. The week will include a series of visits to projects that are innovative and inspiring for the reality of Latin America. In addition to the GRI Week, GRI Club prepared a novelty for this year: the GRI Great Minds Program New York 2019, which, in a partnership with the Syracuse University School of Architecture, will provide participants with a full day (March 29) of immersion in high-level content, in sessions presented by renowned real estate experts.

“In both activities, participants will have different experiences and will have the opportunity to increase their expertise, in direct contact with those who have been revolutionizing the New York real estate market. These will be unique knowledge-sharing moments”, highlights Leonardo Di Mauro, head of Real Estate Latam of GRI Club. “As is typical of the GRI Club format, these agendas include activities that drive interaction among players and can strengthen ties and identify opportunities for new partnerships in informal and reserved environments,” adds the executive.

Attending the 2019 GRI New York Week will be real estate leaders from several Latin American countries. Guided tours to diversified developments that exemplify new trends in the real estate industry have been planned. Included in this list are Hines’ 53W53, built above the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); Studio, a Tishman Speyer co-working; WeGrow and WeLive, formats focused, respectively, on education and co-living, under the management of We group (better known for the WeWork brand); Kohn Pedersen Fox’s Hudson Yards and One Vanderbilt complexes; Cornell Tech’s Roosevelt Island Construction, known for its state-of-the-art technology; and New Lab’s Macro Sea, a project that bets on retrofit and mixed-use and incorporates technological facilities representative of the 4.0 industry.

Last year, the entourage participating in the GRI Week also got behind the scenes and the operation of innovative real estate developments in various segments - such as multifamily, co-living, student housing, senior living and co-working – as well as other iconic and well-established ones – such as the Rockefeller Center.  Participating in the group were representatives of companies of the likes of Paladin (Latin America), Vitacon (Brazil), Morro Vermelho (Brazil), the Arrecife Group (Colombia), PEI Asset Management (Colombia), Jamestown (Colombia and Latin America), the Argos Group (Colombia), and XP Investimentos (Brazil).

Immersion and specialized knowledge

The GRI Great Minds Program New York will focus on cutting-edge funding models, alternative real estate formats, proptechs, and on other topics that are essential to developing the industry’s business in Latin America.

Among the trainers are confirmed experts with extensive experience, such as Johnny Din, chief executive of Cycamore Living and professor of Real Estate Business at Columbia University; Francisco Angragnes, CEO of Metro Buildings and a professor specializing in International Real Estate Market at New York University; Kurt Franz, founder of Edifice, a technology platform for real estate development; Andy Golubitsky, vice president of Development, Macklowe Properties; Abby Hamlin, founder of Hamlin Ventures and a professor of Real Estate Development at Columbia University; and David Belt, co-founder of the New Lab and collaborator at institutions such as Columbia University and MoMA.

Program sessions will be held at the New York campus of Syracuse University, one of the leading US institutions, which was founded in 1870 and has international activities.
