Aviation continues to be one of the hardest hit sectors, having come to a near standstill during the second quarter of 2020, with airports closing and airlines grounding entire fleets. Global passenger traffic dropped by 53%1 in the first five months of 2020.
As countries have begun to control the spread of COVID-19, the aviation sector has seen modest signs of recovery. Passenger numbers have begun to increase in some markets, including China, Europe, and the United States, and domestic and short-haul travel is seeing a faster recovery than international and longhaul markets, respectively
