Overview

As most European markets benefit from the influx of investors finding value in alternative asset classes, it feels like Italy (with so much promise and opportunity) has yet to lift off.

From a survey held in December with GRI Club Italy Advisory Board, it feels like the appetite is ripe for such assets like Student Housing, Multifamily Build-to-Rent and Care Homes and yet supply, scale and equity is nearly non existent to meet this demand.

GRI Club Members will meet in Milan to discuss what strategies might be best to diversify core portfolios with alternatives and offset risk in the late cycle. Attention will be payed to:

  • What does ‘alternative’ mean to the domestic market
  • Entry strategies for global investors and niche operators
  • Market fragmentation and legal challenges
  • Attracting institutional capital into the markets
  • Secondary Cities - Finally out of Milan’s shadow?
  • Student vs Senior vs Multifamily
  • Product availability - New builds or conversions?
  • Student housing: How to bypass the scalability issue?
  • Hybrid assets - Is anything hard to categorize an alternative investment to work on?
  • Exit strategies - How can we safeguard alternative assets for a market downturn?
