Mr. Aggarwal Partner, GIP India and CEO GIP Singapore has over 20 years of experience across equity investing and project finance. As a part of the leadership team, he primarily focuses on origination, evaluation & capital deployment across infrastructure sectors along with managing the portfolio and creating exits. His current specific responsibilities also include overseeing the build out of Vector Green, the renewable platform. He is a member of the Investment Committee & represents the Funds on the Boards of various Portfolio Companies. In his earlier role,Mr. Aggarwal was a founding member of the core investment team at IDFC Alternatives, which set up IDFC’s Infrastructure Funds business.

After a tentative start, the Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) seem to be finally catching on with investors, especially with private equity funds and long-term capital providers such as pension and sovereign wealth funds.

For foreign investors seeking investments that provide stable and long-term yields, InvITs have become an efficient way of investing in operating infrastructure assets for the yields they seek.

In recent times most news in this space has been about private InvITs and interest has been low in public InvITs. This could be due to cautious approach of domestic institutional investors such as pension funds, insurance companies, mutual funds etc. Can this picture change though? Will the domestic institutional investors feel more encouraged by the recent positive news about private InvITs?

The relaxed FPI norms in InvITs proposed in the recent budget could aid to generate more interest in FPI investments in upcoming InvITs in telecom & power sector.

Does the future of InvITS in India look bright with many possibilities or is it too soon to predict this positive surge?
